Local lavender farm helping cancer and hospice patients in Monterey County

MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. —

Lavender Creek Co. has turned its family farm into a source of comfort for cancer and hospice patients in Monterey County.

Ryan and Myriah Hopkins are the husband-and-wife duo behind the lavender farm on Carmel Valley Road. They’re using their home-grown lavender to donate products like hand towels and eye pillows designed to soothe and relax, a much-needed comfort for hospital patients.

“It just makes us smile, makes us so happy to think that there’s people out there who really could use a little extra comfort, and we’re able to help with that,” Ryan Hopkins said.

Now, the Lavender Creek Co. has partnered with Monterey Quilters Guild, which handles the sewing side of the products.

“We are donating our lavender that they sew into eye pillows and then donate it to our hospital or nonprofits,” Hopkins said. “Then those go to patients undergoing cancer treatment and hospice care.”

The lavender is processed in June, dried out and given to the Monterey Quilters Guild. Then, it reaches the hands of patients at local hospitals in Monterey County.

The Hopkins said it has been special to share this endeavor with their two young kids. They said their kids are already growing their passion for lavender.

“This is a family farm, so we hope our children will be able to take this over and their children,” Myriah Hopkins said.
